Folks, i'm not removing anything at this point, and i'm aware that i participated in the early stages of this derail, but at this point it is getting pretty derail-y. It'd be good if comments in this thread stayed relatively focused on Sheeran, his tour, the other acts, etc. You don't have to stop talking about Palestine entirely—it's obviously a critical piece of why this is happening—but this needs to not turn into a general thread about Palestine/Israel/Zionism. (If someone would like to make a general "news about Palestine" thread, there certainly is plenty of it recently, and i invite you to do so.)

It is corrosive to discussion! If your first impulse, seeing a FPP, is irritation or disgust, it's okay to skip it and come back later (or not at all)!

Also, in general be careful when posting the first comments within a thread, as it can easily derail the conversation right of the bat.

Fixed broken link in OP. Folks: yes, the primary link is LLM-generated text. It's clearly marked as such both in the post's text and using the "AI" tag. I swear we are working out policies about how to treat slop links in post, but that's a longer-term process; in the meantime, it really is okay to just skip things.

Folks, Pangram is more accurate than other "AI" detectors, but it's less accurate on this kind of very formal writing than it is on other kinds of writing, because this kind of thing is overrepresented in the training corpus. Philosophers, in particular, are trained to write like this. So i don't know if the content at this link is "AI" or not. And while i personally hate "AI", the community keeps making it pretty clear that they're not thrilled about every discussion getting derailed by that question. If you must say something, please keep it to one comment; but in general, the better practice is probably to flag it to our attention and/or just not engage with the post.

Also, folks, this comment has gotten flagged a few times for being LLM-generated, and it's definitely true that part of it is, but that part is directly quoted from the linked source, which is currently a weird gray area. hankscorpio83, you're not in trouble! But it'd be good if in the future you would use the <blockquote> tag or otherwise make clearer that you are quoting content from elsewhere, especially if that content bears the hallmarks of being generated by an LLM.
