Fixed missing word in OP, deleted a comment about the correction.

One deleted as noise.

One comment removed as requested.

One comment removed. Please avoid posting joke comments that do not address the question being asked.

One comment and reply to it deleted. Please do not make jokes about gender neutral language, that is not OK.

Fixed the circumflex in the title.

One duplicate comment removed.

One deleted. We are not going to turn this thread into a referendum on whether "real men" engage in sexual abuse (they do) or whether girls and women are partly to blame because they like "alphas" (they are not).

Tagged as "USPolitics" and added to sidebar.

Three deleted. ambrosen, it is not okay to speak to or about other community members like that. (One was also deleted as a response to ambrosen's comment, and the third deleted comment was a dupe.) Folks, there's now a MeTa up; if you have complaints about the subject matter of this post, the poster's behavior, or the way we moderate threads in general, those complaints need to go there.

Hey folks! No comments removed so far but just a quick nudge to bring things back on track. The thread is starting to drift into broad generalizations, “all women/all men” takes, extended arguments about Western culture in general, and a few back-and-forths that are not engaging with the article at all. That’s not super useful for anyone trying to discuss the actual topic here. Please refocus on the specifics of the post and let’s keep this thread grounded and in good faith. Further derails and back-and-forth comments picking a fight will need to be removed.

chmmr, please take a break from making back-to-back comments and provide the opportunity for others to engage in the thread. In the future, commenting several times in a row will warrant a deletion of comments. Thanks!

OP edited to put trigger warning above the fold and triggering content below it, at user's request. A few comments about the pre-change state of the post were deleted.

One deleted as noise.

Fixed link in OP and deleted correction comment.

One deleted as noise.

Removed two duplicate comments!

One comment deleted as noise. Seriously, folks, if the presentation (as opposed to the content) of a link bothers you, it's okay to skip it.

One deleted as noise. In general, folks, "join this subreddit" is not a good way to answer an Asker's question. Rather like "Google it" or "ask ChatGPT", it feels dismissive and generally isn't specific enough.

Nothing deleted, but MetaFilter is an international site, so yes, there are a lot of people from around the world who comment here; let's not make them feel like exotic animals, please.

Two deleted. Henry Fool, do not be a jerk to other users. (Plus one comment deleted for responding to the deleted comment.)

One comment deleted. "Sometimes misogyny is cool" is not an appropriate sentiment for MetaFilter even when the woman in question is objectively shitty.

Edited link in OP at user's request, and deleted a comment that was strictly about the correction. Also added a link to the ungated content on Skyview. Also, folks, seriously, the first couple comments in a thread do not need to be about how the content is paywalled or account-gated or otherwise inaccessible. Said content is also not against the guidelines to post; you can continue to flag it if it annoys you, but those flags are unlikely to be acted on. It would be good if folks posting Bluesky content remembered to add an (ungated) link to Skyview, but you can also bookmark Skyview and use it yourself.

A few comments removed. Please remember that AskMeFi comments should address the question being asked, and please avoid starting and argument with other users.

Added "Show Only" as the discussion type to help with navigation from other eps.

Folks, please try not to get into a direct back-and-forth/slapfight in the thread, thanks.

Edited this comment in consultation with the user.

Hey, folks, legit information about someone's misdeeds is generally fine in an obit thread; i'm not going to remove it. However, MisantropicPainforest, please do try to keep it contained to a single comment in future, instead of three in a row?

Edited link in this comment to be clickable.

One deleted for outright doxxing. I'm also going to be deleting the post, but wanted to leave a mod note about the deleted comment, first.

Two deleted for not answering the question.

Made the links in NotLost's comment above clickable. Please carry on.

Made a small correction in the post as requestedby OP.

phunniemee: "I feel compelled to mention the Jobs post wasn't as ugly in preview, but mean ol Metafilter stripped out my html upon posting. C'est la vie, don't @ me. (Unless you're applying to be our Community Operations Manager, in which case please @ me!)"

I have cleaned up the HTML in the jobs post so it's less ugly now!

Made link clickable in this comment.

BlackLeotardFront: "Even so, I must say it reads better than yours!" Regardless of the provocation, it's best not to snipe at other users like this. (I know i'm not perfect about this either! Just, please make an effort?)

Folks, nothing deleted, and this isn't a thing that's really addressed in the guidelines as they currently stand, but: i really wish we could, as a community, move away from complaining about stuff like paywalls, video runtimes, and/or Javascript, especially early in a thread. It tends to pick up a bunch of flags and it not-infrequently derails the conversation entirely. If you can't access the links in a post on terms that are acceptable to you, it's okay to just not comment.

Anonymized post at user's request

Added USPolitics tag and added to the sidebar.

One deleted. Please attempt to answer the question or refrain from commenting/derailing in the thread.

One deleted, poster request.

One deleted, duplicate.

Fixed an issue with the post, at the poster's request.

Okay, i have talked to frimble and apparently there's some institutional knowledge that didn't get transmitted to me (and possibly to other mods as well). There are actually two separate things going on here, and i had been under the impression that they were the same thing: Adding the "USPolitics" tag to a post allows it to be hidden using the "hide US politics" toggle. However, adding a post to the sidebar and actually hiding it does have to be done manually. I'll bear this in mind going forward and make sure the rest of the mods know this as well.

One deleted. Please keep comments limited to answering OP’s question.

For the record: this should be happening automatically based on the tag these days; it should not require a manual setting by a mod anymore. And I'm seeing those two posts hidden when I log in with my normal account and toggle "hide US Politics". But out of an abundance of caution, I have also gone ahead and hidden them manually.

Fixed typo in this comment and removed a comment that only existed to make the correction.

Again, folks, discussion about moderation needs to go to MetaTalk. We'll be deleting any further comments about it from here.

Folks, please do not get into a slapfight with each other in here.

Edited link in this comment to be clickable.

(Also, two deleted: one at the user's request, and the other because it was a reply to the deleted comment and became meaningless without it.)

beesbees: "So if the subject was about a Proctologist in Silicon Valley catering to billionaires, then you couldn't say "What a bunch of assholes"?" Well, just for starters, "assholes" isn't a gendered slur. It is not acceptable to call women "cunts" on MetaFilter. Even if the women are rich shitheads. Even if you're from a Commonwealth country. Even if you do it in a plausibly deniable way with some of the letters replaced with asterisks. It is just not something we're going to allow. If you would like us to change our guidelines and policies around misogynist slurs, that discussion belongs in MetaTalk.

Folks, i'm not going to leave a big hole in the thread with deletions but we are not gonna do jokey usage of misogynist slurs on MetaFilter, even if it's got some letters missing, and even if it's something where you can do the plausible-deniability "oh, but i meant the actual body part!" thing. Paul Slade, that wasn't acceptable; take a break from this thread and don't do this again.

Fixed a typo in the OP at user's request, and made link clickable in this comment.

One comment deleted with extreme prejudice. (Replies left up for context.) ianhorse, i'm giving you a day week off; next time you post transphobic or otherwise bigoted nonsense it will be a permaban. ** NOTE: Edited because i said "day" but meant "week", and that's the penalty that was applied.

Ungated link updated. Please carry on.

One deleted at user's request.

One deleted for not answering the question.

Fixed broken link in post.

One comment from Mr. Yuck has been removed. We have identified an ongoing pattern of posting graphic and disturbing personal anecdotes, despite prior moderator guidance on this issue. As a result, Mr. Yuck has been placed on an open-ended timeout and has been notified about it via email.

Fixed post title.

Fixed broken link in this comment.

One deleted. Let's be careful about suggesting that rapists are closet cases and hold off on speculating/suggesting that as the case.

Just a quick note, folks: there are, in fact, people on MetaFilter whose native languages have grammatical gender, and it'd be great if we could avoid casually insulting those languages.

One deleted at user's request.

One comment deleted. Describing a situation involving sexual assault and unsafe supervision in a care setting in a casual, storytelling manner that is not appropriate for a free thread. Content that includes or trivializes harm needs to be handled with care and posted, if at all, in the proper context with clear intent (like seeking advice or support). Additionally, disclosing the name of the victim can do more harm than good, please refrain from doing that. If you need guidance on handling such a situation, consider posting in a dedicated Ask MeFi thread looking for advice or seeking appropriate professional resources

Duplicate comment removed.

Just a note to please be kind to each other and ensure your answers are intended to help OP without making personal digs or insults. Comments leaning into berating OP will be deleted moving forward.

Fixed a typo in the post at the user's request.

Hi, folks. Nothing deleted, but please be cautious when responding to questions about people with disabilities; some of these answers are fairly aggressive in a way that can come across as dismissive or mean about someone with a disability.

One comment deleted. otherchaz, i assume you mean well, but that joke came across as pretty racist!

Made link in OP clickable.

Removed erroneous location and tags from post.

Fixed typo in this comment at user's request.

One answer deleted as inappropriate. "Do you have a religious faith? Can you become more involved in it?" is a reasonable potential answer, but you need to be careful about asserting that a specific faith will help; it comes across as an attempt to convert.

Hey, folks, everything's going pretty okay in here so far; i just wanted to drop a note to ask you all to please exercise caution about (a) linking this to transness/trans-related issues (unless you yourself are trans) and (b) verging into body-shaming (including penis size shaming). Both of those things have an extremely high likelihood of causing this conversation to go completely off the rails, and i'd very much rather it didn't.

Fixed typo in this comment.

One deleted. Folks, even if you are answering the Asker's question it's very seldom that a question calls for rudeness to the Asker. I'm leaving some replies up for context.

Fixed a typo in this comment, at user's request, and deleted an extraneous comment about it.

Fixed link in original post (time scrubber was scrubbing to end).

Okay I think that got it!

One deleted for not really answering the question (and additionally being hinky).
