One deleted. Folks, it's true that FanFare is a discussion site for fans, but "fan" is a very broad identity category and criticism, including harsh criticism, is not "shitting up" a discussion. It's certainly not something that warrants sniping at another user by name.

Yes, I should've reached out privately first. What i saw was a user who registered in 2023, who'd never made any comments before making two in the same thread, and between that and the flags i was absolutely less charitable than i should have been. Well, this thread seems to pretty much have been strangled, but for the record, some notes:

• I've reinstated one comment that thyme previously deleted; it didn't violate the guidelines for MeTa (although i concur in their statement that folks should make sure they are leaving space for other people to talk)


• Folks need to avoid resorting to personal insults against other community members, even in MeTa.


• Folks also need to avoid imputing the worst possible motives to other community members, especially when you have very limited information. Just as one example: millions of people across the Global South are still "giving money to Nazis" by being on Twitter, and folks who want to keep up with the Global South are often still reading stuff there too because there is nowhere else to get the information.

Fixed broken link in OP. Folks: yes, the primary link is LLM-generated text. It's clearly marked as such both in the post's text and using the "AI" tag. I swear we are working out policies about how to treat slop links in post, but that's a longer-term process; in the meantime, it really is okay to just skip things.

Folks, this thread needs to not end up with people sniping at each other like this. It's true that Elon Musk is a Nazi. It's also true that many communities, especially of people in the Global South, are still mostly on Twitter rather than anywhere else. That sucks for a lot of reasons! But pretending it isn't true, or that there are replacements for the information and sharing happening in those communities, doesn't help anyone.

Also, folks, the "how people are treated" derail should either stop or go elsewhere.

Folks, Pangram is more accurate than other "AI" detectors, but it's less accurate on this kind of very formal writing than it is on other kinds of writing, because this kind of thing is overrepresented in the training corpus. Philosophers, in particular, are trained to write like this. So i don't know if the content at this link is "AI" or not. And while i personally hate "AI", the community keeps making it pretty clear that they're not thrilled about every discussion getting derailed by that question. If you must say something, please keep it to one comment; but in general, the better practice is probably to flag it to our attention and/or just not engage with the post.
