Mod note on 'Save the Date: No Kings Is Back October 17!'

Fixed typo in Pritzker's name in this comment.

Mod note on 'Games for Educational Use'

One comment deleted; it was a correction comment from the OP and got missed when the title was changed.

Mod note on 'Repointing concrete with lime?'

One deleted; if an Ask requires some level of expertise, it's not a great idea to jump in without knowing the subject matter pretty well.

Mod note on 'Save the Date: No Kings Is Back October 17!'

One deleted; it was not a bad comment in isolation but was unrelated to the subject of the post, and was likely to cause a derail.

Deleted mefi post 'Taken together, the portfolio tells a different story'

MetaFilter post Taken together, the portfolio tells a different story deleted. Conspiracy theories and antisemitism are not the Best of the Web.

Mod note on 'What was once an isolating experience is now a mass coming of age'

Folks, i'm not going to delete the "smith" derail because i don't think it's significant enough to warrant leaving a big hole in the thread, but this conversation really needs to get back on the rails.

Mod note on 'Is it weird to host a potluck not at home?'

Two deleted; please do not get into back-and-forth exchanges with other users in Ask!

Mod note on 'Doing something for others who would not do the same for you'

One deleted; please don't get into back-and-forths with other users in Ask!

Mod note on 'Games for Educational Use'

Post title corrected, as pointed out by OP.

Deleted ask post 'Is it weird to host a potluck not at home?'

Ask MetaFilter post Is it weird to host a potluck not at home? deleted. Spam.

Mod note on 'Pope Tours'

One comment removed for not answering the question.

Mod note on 'What was once an isolating experience is now a mass coming of age'

Hey folks, no comments removed but two comments in we're already off the rails. If the issue is that the post doesn't summarize the article well enough, that's fair feedback, but "what does this link to" read as combative rather than curious, and it pulled three more comments into a meta-conversation about hovering over text instead of the actual subject. Let's use the rest of the thread to actually engage with the link. Flagging and moving on rather than litigating the link format would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mod note on 'Manitoba Has an Ambitious Plan to End Homelessness'

Removed the first comment and a few replies to it. Posting a single link with the headline as a comment at the beginning of a thread lacks context so please try to articulate your point so that members understand the relevance of the comment in the context of the thread. Also, in general be careful when posting the first comments within a thread, as it can easily derail the conversation right of the bat.

Mod note on 'You've been hit by a smooth criminal'

Nothing deleted, but note that "open season" can be interpreted as a call for real violence and it makes people uncomfortable and picks up flags. Exercise caution in the future, please!

Mod note on 'Movie: Buddy'

Fixed to reflect the correct movie; deleted a comment about the correction.

Mod note on 'Lanterns: The Weenie'

One deleted. Folks, it's true that FanFare is a discussion site for fans, but "fan" is a very broad identity category and criticism, including harsh criticism, is not "shitting up" a discussion. It's certainly not something that warrants sniping at another user by name.

Mod note on 'IANAL but I may need one.'

Several deleted, a couple for being fairly insensitive about a kid's trauma, a few for not answering the question, and a few for getting into a back-and-forth with other users/meta-discussion about the question. Meta-discussion needs to go to MeTa; clarification questions are okay but folks do need to be sensitive when the question involves a kid; and while personal anecdotes are sometimes okay (and i've left a few of them up), there does need to be some kind of throughline to an answer.

I did leave up a few answers that were much more focused on parenting advice than legal/bureaucratic next steps; all of the ones i left up are from before the Asker clarified that they are not looking for parenting advice.

Mod note on 'How to get money from roommate who owes it'

One deleted for being very dismissive and not answering the question.

Mod note on '"Of course I'm not deceiving you."'

Fixed Guy Williams' name in this comment; removed a comment about the correction.

Mod note on 'Predictive Intelligence Targeting'

Added USPolitics tag. Please carry on.

Mod note on 'What the PrSM is meant to do'

Added USPolitics tag. Please carry on.

Deleted ask post 'Meaning in a Meaningless world?'

Ask MetaFilter post Meaning in a Meaningless world? deleted. User's request

Mod note on 'Free Thread - Because it's good for you'

Nothing removed, but please note that "pansy" is often considered to be homophobic, and is not generally acceptable language for MetaFilter.

Mod note on 'I'm Not Remarkable'

Two deleted. Apple's history with the IDF is potentially relevant to this conversation, but it is not okay to accuse other members of being paid shills. (One was deleted for that reason, and the other was a reply to the deleted comment.)

Mod note on 'Itโ€™s bizarre to use something daily and not engage with it critically'

Two comments deleted as noise.

Mod note on 'Orient your shells left-right? or top-bottom? Life says: why not both?'

Fixed wording in OP at user's request.

Made links in post clickable.

Mod note on 'LEAD PIPE DX'

Removed extra querystring params from youtube link in OP.

Mod note on 'Overwhelming voices'

Fixed links in this comment and added song titles (for visibility) to the links in this comment. Also, one comment deleted as a duplicate.

Mod note on 'there was very little sense that working, in itself, could be dignified'

Fixed a typo in the OP!

Mod note on 'Is anal sex now considered standard for heterosexuals?'

One deleted for using a homophobic trope. It was clearly inadvertent but didn't need to be here.

Mod note on 'constrained but not powerless'

One comment deleted for being in the wrong thread. jenfullmoon, i believe you want the MrBeast thread!

Mod note on 'Is anal sex now considered standard for heterosexuals?'

Fixed link in this comment. Also, two deleted: the first invoked a dodgy racist/sexist influencer and was only sort of orthogonal to an answer anyway, and the second was a response to the first.

Mod note on 'A Lion in Winter Shorts'

Fixed link in this comment.

Mod note on 'How do stores keep their clothes smelling nice?'

Moved first paragraph of OP above the fold, to accommodate folks with titles turned off.

Mod note on 'Cheese Bank'

Fixed a typo in OP.

One deleted for not answering the question.

Two accidental comments removed.

Mod note on 'MrBeast x James Patterson'

Corrected book title as requested. Please carry on.

Mod note on 'Watermarking of AI Text.'

dsword: Whoops! Apparently i'm the one who was confused, then; i've restored your comment and edited the previous mod note!

Mod note on 'RIP, Paris Climate Accord'

One deleted. pantamisiac, sorry to see you go; if you want to talk about it, feel free to reach out via the Contact Form.

Mod note on 'Out, out, damned grease!'

Removed links from this comment, with the user's permission, as they were redundant.

Mod note on 'A family tree like a stick'

Fixed link in this comment.

Mod note on 'Watermarking of AI Text.'

One deleted for being in the wrong thread. dsword, i believe you want the MetaPi thread!
Restored the comment; it was in the right thread after all!

Mod note on 'GrassGPT'

One deleted for being hostile.

Mod note on 'The task is to understand what our fears reveal'

One deleted (wrong thread!)

Mod note on 'The AI Bailout Could Be Baked Into the AI Bubble'

One deleted at user's request.

Mod note on 'Fascists and their paperwork'

Fixed URL in bgrebs' answer.

Mod note on '๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿค˜ Female Fronted Metal & Punk #24 ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿค˜'

Fixed typo in post.

Mod note on 'Today in Competitive Authoritarianism'

One comment removed as requested.

Mod note on 'โ€œI Didnโ€™t Chase The Dollar. I Never Did.โ€'

Updated post with the Direct Guardian link.

Mod note on 'Snowpiercer: Without Their Maker'

Added Rewatch category at user's request.

Mod note on 'Mefi Clubs and Special Projects'

Made an email address correction in the OP at the request of one of the club organizers!

EDIT: out of an abundance of caution, we've actually just gone ahead and removed all the email addresses that aren't obviously single-purpose club emails. If you are a club maintainer and would like us to put yours back in the post, let us know!

Mod note on 'co-existing with broke people'

One deleted. Folks, please don't get into back-and-forth conversations with other users in Ask.

Mod note on 'Color Counter'

Two comments removed. Folks, your enthusiasm is appreciated, but please don't ruin the game for other people who might want to play it by posting giant lists of colors!

Mod note on 'looking for a book my mom read once'

One comment deleted as noise. LOOKING, please do note that AI-generated comments are against the guidelines on MetaFilter.

Mod note on 'Retirement is Dead'

UPDATE: I apologize to House Hippolyta for how i handled the "possible LLM" flags yesterday; i absolutely should have done more due diligence before making a public mod note. There is more discussion over in the ongoing MeTa about LLM comments.

Mod note on 'Opinion on AI-generated comments'

warriorqueen: "Also, what happened to reaching out to members first? (I'm aware this was an aspirational comment, not policy.)"

Yes, I should've reached out privately first. What i saw was a user who registered in 2023, who'd never made any comments before making two in the same thread, and between that and the flags i was absolutely less charitable than i should have been. (I genuinely thought the account might've been hijacked.)

It's my bad for not doing my due diligence here. I'm very sorry, House Hippolyta, and i'm going to issue an apology in the main thread as well.

Mod note on 'Why might my political spam text be addressed to another person?'

One comment removed for not answering the question.

Deleted fanfare post 'Movie: The Horseman'

FanFare post Movie: The Horseman deleted. Poster's request

Mod note on 'Canada/US Trade Talks Collapse'

Several comments deleted. Full transparency: three of the four were mine, and the fourth was a reply to me. They were fighty and were going to cause a derail, so i would've requested deletion, but i'm also the only mod available for the next several hours, so i had to do the deletion myself. Sorry, folks, i wasn't modeling good behavior there.

Mod note on 'Retirement is Dead'

House Hippolyta, folks have flagged your comments: it looks as though you may have used an LLM to generate at least portions of them. Please note that this is against the content policy and you need to write your comments yourself. This was a bad call; i've posted an apology below.

Mod note on 'Bureau of Minor Sufferings'

Added "AI" tag. I don't think we have consensus on whether "AI"-generated content needs its own tag, separate from "AI" (which is more for posts which are about "AI"), but this will work at least for now.

Mod note on 'The greatest songs of the eighties! For some values of great anyway'

One deleted for not answering the question.

Mod note on 'NeXt up'

Well, this thread seems to pretty much have been strangled, but for the record, some notes:

  • I've reinstated one comment that thyme previously deleted; it didn't violate the guidelines for MeTa (although i concur in their statement that folks should make sure they are leaving space for other people to talk)

  • Folks need to avoid resorting to personal insults against other community members, even in MeTa.

  • Folks also need to avoid imputing the worst possible motives to other community members, especially when you have very limited information. Just as one example: millions of people across the Global South are still "giving money to Nazis" by being on Twitter, and folks who want to keep up with the Global South are often still reading stuff there too because there is nowhere else to get the information.

Mod note on 'Lego without corners'

Highlights link fixed in OP, and one comment about the correction deleted.

Mod note on 'Movie: Ladies First'

Fixed credits block in OP, at user's request.

Mod note on 'Bureau of Minor Sufferings'

No comments removed, but let's please not have discussions of whether something is AI or not within the post itself.

Mod note on 'Bureau of Minor Sufferings'

Fixed typo in the title.
