(Also deleted one comment related to the typo that i'd missed before, sorry!)

okayturnip, you gotta let the thread breathe a little. Try consolidating your thoughts rather than posting several comments in a row, please!

Fixed a typo in the OP.

One deleted for not answering the question.

Fixed link in this answer and deleted a correction comment.

Folks, just a gentle reminder that comments in Ask need to be actual answers, and should not generally argue with other commenters. Nothing deleted as of right now, but please keep comments focused!

Replaced the first link so it points to the “gift link” as well, as it didn’t point anywhere originally.

Fixed typo in Ilhan Omar's name in this comment.

phunniemee: "I know we're like not supposed to "use metafilter" to "incite violent insurrection" or whatever but I want them hung by their heels at a gas station near the national mall. Fuck all of these horrible, hateful, dangerous people." I'm not going to delete this, and our guidelines about this have been obviously in flux and tricky to enforce for awhile now (it's a priority to address this! and now that we have a Community Manager it'll happen sooner rather than later!) But folks, in general it's a good idea to be really careful with this kind of rhetoric, not because any of us cares what happens to these people but because it does make other community members uncomfortable.

Fixed season information.

Two comments removed as requested by the commenter. Left the comment replying to it for context.

Made this "Show Only" so the previous/next links work properly. OP let us know if you didn't want this somehow, thanks!

Made links clickable in this comment.

Agreed, the Mod Oversight and BIPOC Committees discussion needs its own MeTa, please. Candidate threads are for discussions with the candidates.

Made links clickable in this comment.

One deleted. "Look it up on Google" is almost never an appropriate answer in Ask! People come to Ask for expertise and personal experience!

I am not deleting any comments here. However, let it be said: it is totally fine to ask the candidates questions, even pointed questions, in these threads. It is, however, not kind or reasonable to snipe at them.

One comment not answering the question removed.

Added USPolitics tag and added to the sidebar.

Fixed a typo in this comment.

Folks, seriously. It's not that you're not allowed to make jokes about pens. Jokes about pens are fine. Jokes about fucking someone's wife, otoh, are unpleasant and at least arguably sexist. And when we've removed those, and then someone makes a joke about the mod note, well, that doesn't help. I haven't called anyone by name because it was all pretty clearly jokes made inappropriately, rather than with malice. But if you feel strongly about any of this, please take it to MeTa, or the contact form, or the Board, or the MOC, rather than poking fun at mod actions here in the damn thread.

Added to the USPolitics sidebar.

Another comment removed. Please refer to the previous mod note and refrain from making light jokes in a serious discussion.

One comment removed as requested by OP.

Fixed 99_'s username in OP. Sorry, folks!

Made a wording correction to the post as requested by OP

Corrected the candidate's username in the title.

One comment not answering the question being asked removed.

One deleted at user's request.

Two deleted; they were related to the duplicate post. I've decided to keep this one since both posters liked the summary in this one better.

Two deleted.I apologize for not catching those earlier. In general, comments about fucking anyone's wife should be thought about real hard before you post them, because they are not great and they upset people!

One removed; the Asker specifically requested help from people with personal experience.

Made link clickable in this comment.

One duplicate comment deleted!

One deleted. Comments in Ask need to answer the question being asked, and also should not psychoanalyze the Asker unless they are clear on wanting that kind of advice.

One deleted. It didn't answer the question and it seems to have been a broken link.

Removed tracking parameter from link in OP. Folks, this has gotten a couple flags. It's definitely a thin FPP, but the actual conversation is going well so we're not going to delete it.

One deleted for not answering the question.

Made link clickable in this comment.

Two deleted. Folks, you know better than to complain about moderation issues in a thread. Send us a contact form, reach out to the Board or the MOC, or take it to MeTa, please.

One comment removed. Please keep the discussion focused on the topic, rather than calling out individual users or getting into personal disputes. This thread is also not the place to rehash the 2024 U.S. elections.

Two deleted: tclark, it's definitely not acceptable to pick fights with other MeFites when they aren't even in the thread. (The other deleted comment was fine, but it was a quote-reply to tclark's.) And folks, that is enough of relitigating 2024. You are certainly welcome to talk about upcoming voting behavior, but the temperature in here needs to come down several notches overall.

One comment removed for not answering the question.

One comment reframing the headline around drivers running over children and killing pedestrians removed. I've left the replies in place for context. Concerns about phone use while driving are fair to raise, but this thread focuses on how immigrant families maintain connections across distance. Please be sensitive to that context and keep the discussion on topic.

Folks, the temperature in here needs to come down, please. The FPP link is to a really odious person with ulterior motives! But the conversation is broadly going well, and i do not want to have to nuke the whole thing from orbit.

One deleted as a duplicate.

Fixed an issue with one of the links in the OP.

For the record, "diarrhoea" is a perfectly cromulent spelling, and on an international website it absolutely doesn't need (and shouldn't get!) a [sic]. But it'd be good to get the conversation back on track now.

Fixed episode numbering of post.

Removed a stray period in the post as requested by OP.

Nothing deleted, but moderation officially cosigns this comment from MisantropicPainforest. People like the drinks they like, and they deserve accurate labeling information.

One deleted. Please note that spoilers are explicitly permitted in FanFare, except above the fold in the top post.

Fixed time-jumping link in OP and deleted a comment about the correction.

I’ve removed two comments of the AIPAC exchange and left the replies pushing back for context because the discussion had shifted into personal accusations and speculation about other members’ motives. Criticism of AIPAC and its political influence, is welcome; please keep that criticism focused on the organizations, candidates, and evidence rather than on fellow commenters.

Folks, the stuff about immigration is a derail in this thread and it really should stop at this point.

parisologist, please do not pivot the discussion into a separate argument about Abdul El-Sayed, the synagogue attack, or broader Israel/Palestine politics. If you have something to add, keep it directly responsive to the linked project and the experiences being discussed here.

Hi! We’re aware that there are two free threads, great to see so much participation today. We’ve decided to leave both up, since each is generating an active, meaningful conversation.

Hi! We’re aware that there are two free threads, great to see so much participation today. We’ve decided to leave both up, since each is generating an active, meaningful conversation.

FYI, I've closed the other free thread in favour of this one. Please carry on.

Made link in this comment clickable. Please go on.

Nothing deleted, but please note that Asker is looking for ways to engage that are not TV, not for ways to convince their partner of their correctness on the TV issue.

Fixed typo in this comment at user's request.

Fixed error in OP at user's request.

Edited link in this comment to be clickable.

One deleted for not answering the question.

Fixed broken link in OP and deleted two comments about the correction!

One deleted. Some people like a little bit of mystery in their FPP links and some don't, and it's okay that not every post is for everybody.

Fixed post title.

One deleted. Folks, various archival tools are available to you to bypass logins and paywalls; it is not against the rules to post paywalled or login-gated links. For Bluesky, i recommend Threadsky; just add a "t" to the front of any "bsky.app" URL to use it.

Added an in-comment content warning to this comment. Also (unrelated to this comment), folks, please be careful about joking around in this thread; there's a lot of trauma tied up in this subject, and while humor sometimes goes okay you gotta be really careful.

No comments removed but, beesbees, this is a thread about a person’s suffering during a botched execution. Jokes about someone on death row “doing the job themselves,” even as political satire, are needless. Please keep the discussion humane and substantive.

Added USPolitics tag and added to the sidebar.

Fixed typo in OP.

Fixed typo in OP.

I'm not deleting anything for now, but please do keep this thread focused on the actual topic. References to parallel situations are okay for comparison purposes, but let's not derail.

Also, made link clickable in this comment. Sorry for the double mod note!

Nothing deleted, but please note that calling anyone a "bitch" is strongly discouraged at MetaFilter.

One deleted as a duplicate; also, Kate Manne's name fixed in this comment (it was misspelled).

Folks, everyone is overwhelmed and the world is on fire but please try not to snark at each other.

One deleted because it was likely to be disruptive. Folks, we know about the possible ban-evasion and we're investigating. If we turn out to be wrong, we'll restore the comment.

Two deleted for not answering the question.

Fixed broken link in OP.

One deleted (one reply left up for context). To be very clear: testosterone is not a magic rape hormone, rapists do not rape because of their biology, and that sort of comment is not acceptable on MetaFilter.

I'm closing this -- I can't imagine it going anywhere good.

Folks, please let's not get into a slapfight in this thread.

Two deleted. (Full disclosure: one of them was mine; it included an unnecessary and fighty generalization against a group of people that includes many MeFites. The other deleted comment was a reply to mine.)

Two deleted at user's request.

Two deleted. Folks, it's not great when the first comment out of the gate is a downer, i get that, and pushback is 100% okay and expected. However, you cannot call other MeFites "paid shills" and you cannot talk about punching people in a way that seems like you are intentionally including MeFites in the list of punching victims.
